The other day, Walter Heidenreich brought us a surprise. We don't really know beforehand how his visits to us in rehab go anyway: sometimes he teaches from the Bible, sometimes he tells stories about his encounters with God, or he takes time to answer our residents' questions. But this evening, everyone could see the back of the canvas waiting to be unveiled.

A painted vision

Fortunately, we were not kept in suspense for long. The painting had been done by Walter von Linde Hals and it expressed the heart of God and His vision of Wiedenhof House. A place where the fire of God falls and from where people carry this fire of God's love and power into all the world.

For each of our rehabilitants this is a message in itself. For it is about a perspective for one's own life that far exceeds yesterday or today: This image reflects the hope and plans of God for each former drug addict. Each one is precious!

Precious treasures

Janina Mahrt is such a precious treasure: completely at the end of her life, she came from the Dortmund drug scene to Haus Wiedenhof. Here she experienced Jesus and not only became free from drug addiction, but her life got a new direction. After her rehab, she proved herself in a company, but soon realized that God had a different plan for her. She became an employee at Haus Wiedenhof and passed on to others seeking help what she herself had received from Jesus - in addition, she also managed the bookkeeping of the house. Thus Janina was a support and precious part of our house for many years, for which we are grateful from the bottom of our hearts. But God's plans did not end there. As in the picture, Janina was also drawn to the nations! Whether in Mongolia, Germany or Myanmar - Janina loved to worship Jesus there as part of a band.

Then this year, she made the move out of Haus Wiedenhof and into the team (and accounting) of HELP International. After being a blessing to Wiedenhof, Janina will now be a blessing to all our HELP ministries. We are totally happy about that!

God's plans

Janina is an example of many people who, despite all the brokenness, pain and addictions, were able to gain new hope for their lives. God says this very clearly in the Bible: " I know the thoughts that I have toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." (in Jeremiah 29:11). We pray that God's thoughts will still lead many from Wiedenhof House to the ends of the earth, so that they may pass on this hope and strength to others!
